Christmas Party 2019

Christmas Party 2019 at the Safety Centre

On 12th December, The Training and Safety Centre hosted a Christmas Party for Heaton School (a Secondary Special School for young people with Severe learning difficulties, Profound and Multiple learning difficulties, Autism and Complex Medical Needs), and Jigsaw Link (who provide a befriending service for people over the age of 50). We began the morning with Christmas songs, mince pies and festive cheer.

We ran two tours around the Centre focusing on fire safety in the home, and teaching what you should do if your clothes catch on fire… STOP, DROP AND ROLL! Everyone loved the tours and learnt lots of information about how to keep themselves safe, especially in winter.

We then had an extremely special visitor.... It was, of course, Santa! Everyone was excited as he drove up to the Centre in a fire engine and walked in greeting us and delivering presents for everyone.

Santa joined us for some carols, led by two wonderful volunteers, Janice and Ian Lewis. Then Santa turned into our bingo caller, as we began playing party games including: bingo and pass the parcel. Everyone had a wonderful time socialising and enjoyed talking to us and taking part in something different.

Brydie Conboy, the class teacher from Heaton School said “thank you very much for having us to visit today, we had a lovely time all around and shared our day in assembly this afternoon!” The young people and Jigsaw’s service users all learnt so much about how to stay safe as well as integrating together to combat loneliness.

Finally, thank you to everyone who helped with the event for all of the input, support and help on the day. It was a huge success and we received amazing feedback from all of our guests. Thank you again, especially to our magnificent volunteers who were an enormous help during the event: Barbara Walton, Jhonnatan Castano, Daniel Kelly, Sue Abbott and Jack Chase.
